Don Tremain passed away on May 20th after a long courageous 4 year battle with cancer. Don was an amazing photographer whose accomplishments in life were measured more by his love for life and his craft, rather than awards or accolades. Don loved to talk to people and as a result, he loved photographing people more than anything else. Don won Parade Magazines photo content award with an amazing shot of a woman in a hammock---he knew how to make even the simplest subjects interesting. Don always managed to capture the true spirit of his subject---he was a master story teller. Don also loved to travel and recorded his many adventures with his photographic flair. Don’s talent was recognized by The Dallas Morning News when they hired him in the marketing department as a staff photographer in the 1980’s and by a host of Dallas based high-profile clients over the subsequent years. He loved his dog Newman. They were inseparable and could often be found strolling Old City Park or Fair Park on any given day. No one will miss him more than his long time friend and companion, Connie Petska, who was with him up until the end.

Donald G Tremain was born on August 6, 1949 in Elwood, Nebraska. He passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, May 20, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

Don moved to Schuyler, Nebraska with his family as a toddler and later moved to Kermanshah, Iran for 2 and one half years. The family then returned to Superior Nebraska where Don attended school and graduated in 1967. It was in high school that Don developed his passion for photography. He was co-editor and photographer of his high school year book. Upon graduation, Don attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska, majoring in Journalism. Don worked for Nebraska Educational Television for several years before moving to Dallas.

Don never went anywhere without a camera. His photographs and videos capturing special moments will be a treasure for family and friends to cherish for generations to come.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence W. Tremain, mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Tremain-Kearns, and sister-in-law, Bernie Tremain. Don is survived by his long time companion Connie Petska of Dallas, TX, and faithful dog, Newman, sisters Vestey Leising and husband Jerry of Shorewood, MN, Mona Grabher and husband Fred of Valley, NE, Teresa Pensick and husband Pat of Omaha, NE, twin brother David Tremain of Norfolk, NE, and brother John Tremain and wife Barb of Lincoln, NE. Don also had 7 nieces and nephews as well as 5 great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held in Texas later this summer.

Memorials may be made in Don’s name at your local Humane Society.
